Captains

October 3rd, 2008 by Alan

It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce Glen Lowis and Haydn Main as the two captains for The Everest Test.

Glen, who will lead Team Hillary, proved he was a character to watch right from day one. His passion for the project along with his pride in representing a team named after the greatest Kiwi of them all have led to him emerging from a whole crop of contenders to be the unanimous choice for skipper. Well done Glen, and good luck with it.

Hillary appointmentMen of Tenzing

Haydn meanwhile, will lead the match favourites Team Tenzing. This man is seriously committed to the cause and has been badgering Wes almost non-stop since finding out about this project. He has proved central in all forms and now that he has the responsibility of captaincy we all know he will raise his game further.

At the first meeting for this project back in April there was some concern among those gathered that the fact so many people were coming from the Drovers Cricket Club would lead to slight favouritism, so it is hugely satisfying that two people from outside that group have come to the fore and brought new ideas and inspirations.

They will be supported by their vice captains, Jules Staveley for Hillary and Gareth Lewis from Tenzing. Both these guys have vital roles to play as well between now and April 2009. These two were at university together so know each others games inside out and I have no doubt that they will spur each other on, as well as those around them.

Haydn grabbed the early bragging rights by leading Tenzing to a comprehensive victory on Saturday and thus giving his team a rather lofty status as favourites, fighting talk has ensued from Glen, and the competition just keeps hotting up!
