Wave Goodbye…

November 9th, 2008 by Alan

Most of the time in this blog we talk about all of the great things that are happening around The Everest Test, but it must be said that everything does not always go swimmingly, and that is part of the challenge.

In the last month we have had to say goodbye to no less than seven people. Two of these are from Team Tenzing, and it is with heavy hearts we wave goodbye to the two Charlie’s, Brewer(left) and Meek(right).

Both have had to make a tough choice, and we commend them for doing so because in making that call they have put the event before themselves, which sums up the spirit of what this is all about.

Charlie Meek said: “Ultimately guys this trip for all of you will be one of the biggest, if not the biggest thing you will do in your lives, and I just didn’t feel that I could do enough, or commit enough time to justify my place on the plane, let alone the team.

“I would honestly say that withdrawing from the trip is the single hardest thing I have ever had to do. I was so proud to be a part of it, and to come to the decision in my head that it wasn’t at all feasible was utterly heartbreaking. Most of you have already put in the most amazing effort to the trip and that is quite remarkable.”

Charlie Brewer echoed his sentiments: “I felt fantastically privileged to be part of this awesome challenge and to get to know so many great guys who are putting so much effort towards both the trip and the fundraising.

“I’m absolutely gutted to be missing out but I really felt that after a long period of ill health I wasn’t going to be able to contribute my best for the challenge in April. I wish all of those going the very best of luck, I know you will have earned it! Come on Team Tenzing!”

So we are actively recruiting for the playing side, one replacement is on board - and will be revealed soon - but Haydn and Gareth, along with Wes, are carefully looking at individuals who can bring something new to the formidable outfit that Tenzing already is.

Likewise the Trektators have also lost several people in recent weeks.

Laura Hewitt, who had such a large hand in organising the launch at a few weeks ago, was one of the first to go, again thinking of the bigger picture and pulling out early to enable us to find a replacement. Laura has damaged her back and has many months of physio ahead, we wish you all the best Laura and a quick recovery.

We also lost our nurse: Elaine Badrian, Cameraman: Paul Stadden, Nepal expert: Ed Faber and First Aid man Greg Dickson. No doubt the current financial climate has played a part, as have circumstances outside of everyones control, but we should take this opportunity to thank all the above for the roles you have played up to now and you will of course be welcomed to all future events.

Despite all of this, the trip continues to progress. Kirt and Wes never let up in their pursuit to make this dream a reality, and the latter even graced us with his presence at the Trim Trail in the rain on Saturday morning in Wandsworth Common. As the picture shows, it was thoroughly unpleasant, but the 10 who took part loved it, in that slightly deranged way that people tend to enjoy fitness.

Once we have our new recruits confirmed they will each receive a huge welcome right here. Watch this space……
